LG Working On “Roller Screen” For Smartphones, Filed New Patent

South Korean Company, LG is keep coming with its innovative display design idea and in the past quarter, the company is awarded many patents for a variety of foldable phone designs. The latest information is coming from the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPRIS) where LG has filed a new patent for the smartphone’s display. And this time, it is for rollable display or “Roller Screen”.

The patent was filed in October last year and was published in June this year. So, It is possible that we could see Smartphones with a rollable display. LetsGoDigital shared the 3D render based on the roller screen patent which looks very interesting. The patent shows a device that is the size of a smartphone. It becomes larger than the size tablet when its rollable form expanded. You can see in the patent images if you have less space to carry, you can roll it up; if you need more, you can expand it all. It shows more manual control over the display and that is very unique concept for future smartphones

The flexible screen has four bending points, so you can also bend the display slightly and user interface will adjust accordingly. So, it can play multiple roles for the display. However, there are no buttons or connections visible on the smartphone in this render.

Last month in august, LG also patent a foldable smartphone having three-piece & two display. Along with LG, Samsung has also filed a patent for a rollable display which can be activated by fingerprint. In addition, this LG “roller screen” can be used not only in mobile phones but also on television.
