Most of the time, you do not need to do anything in this folder since it is maintained by the Windows Update Agent. The sub-folders may not be in sync if your update takes an unusually long time or if the files are not being installed. If that happens, you may have to clean the SoftwareDistribution folder.
Clear the “SoftwareDistribution” folder and re-download update files
There are three steps you have to follow to clear the SoftwareDistribution folder and re-download the update. You should first disable Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer, then delete the contents of the folders manually. Then turn these services back on again.
The first step is to open CMD as administrator by pressing Start and typing cmd. Type each command one at a time and press Enter:
- net stop wuauserv
- net stop bits
Next, you need to take action and remove the contents of the SoftwareDistribution folder. You can simply delete all folders found in “C:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution“. Try again, It will help if you can’t delete them.
As a final step, we must restart the services we stopped. Type each of these commands one by one in the Command Prompt as shown earlier:

Enable TPM 2.0 on your PC

- Press Win+R to launch the Run command and type tpm.msc and click on OK to run.
